Now John arrives home to find that his father has had his safe looted and all of his savings taken. Moreover, the robbers have taken Becky! Desperate to find her, John begins his quest in pursuit of the outlaws. News is out about the lost treasure and dozens of men are on the trail, battling with John to be the first to the riches. The marshal who promised Jim a job is dead and there's something about his replacement that Jim finds sinister. Jim's world is falling apart - until he gets help from the most unlikely source: Marshal Jake Bradman makes him his deputy. Marshal Hal Gunn had always been a solid character - so solid that it seemed nothing could get past his defences. Then, as he returned home to his small ranch on the edge of a vast prairie, his life changed forever - A ruthless band of Comancheros led by the infamous Tipah Porter had struck. Smoke billowed from the wreckage of his home but there was no sign of his family - only the stench of burning flesh amid the ashes. Then, just south of the ranch, Gunn caught a glimpse of two horsemen riding along as fast as their horses could carry them. Had the deadly Comancheros returned to finish the Star Riders? There was only one way to find out.
Bloodshed at the Broken Spur by Steven Gray

But McCall was ready to take them all on, even if he had to use his bare hands - Nothing would stop him getting Rosa back. Nothing.

A look at Black Horse artist Prieto
Perhaps the name of Manuel Prieto Murillo you not be well known, but surely you have seen some of the illustrations he has done for Westerns. Born in Almeria in 1931, Prieto began in the world of comics in the 50's with "Lonesome Jim", as well as doing covers for the release of "Jonah Hex" for detective novels ("ZZ7") and biographical ("Galeria right"), all for the same publisher.

Review of The Lost Trail by Logan Winters
This really is an action packed read. Nearly every chapter has some kind of fighting within it, be it with fists or guns. The prose is straight-forward and flows smoothly as the author presents what a first seems to be a fairly traditional plotline, yet still manages to keep an air of suspicion over many of his well-drawn characters.

Review of The Widow Maker by Lance Howard
This was the second Black Horse Western that I read.
The Widow Maker is Brace Carrigan, a one eyed outlaw who leads a gang of women. The toothless Shale, the big Bertha, Mexican triplets April, May and June with the bookish Calamity Annie with her mousy look and wire framed glasses make up the gang and they all lack a love of men. And that is what the gang leaves behind - widows. But all this dates back to Carrigan's childhood and a bullying father who killed Brace's mother. Even when his life is threatened by a woman he cannot bring himself to kill her. And that threat is real...

An Interview with David Whitehead
Born on the wild frontier of East London, David Whitehead always wanted to write. As a child his father would pass on his old western books and also record stories he'd invented himself onto a tape for his young son to listen to. And now that boy has become a man but that boyhood love of storytelling, and specifically westerns is still with him.
