Review of Duel of Shadows by Billy Hall

Billy Hall beautifully mixes ‘whodunit’ and western and comes up with a very difficult to put down read. The book opens with a hold-up and a cold-hearted killing that leads to a lynching. Even though the reader knows the hanged man wasn’t guilt, Billy Hall keeps the identity of the real killer a mystery, a shadow that plants evidence and whispers names.

Dalton reckons that anything will be better than breaking rocks, but when he joins Company H - known as Company Hell - he soon regrets his decision. The troopers are a motley collection of prisoners recruited from jailhouses, or gunslingers running from arrest warrants. A perilous journey and a bloody battle with a gang of thugs delay their progress but earn Cade the respect of the Indians and they reach Bear in time to get him some help. So when Clay Harding rides from Cheyenne to bring back the rule of law he is sucked into a whirlpool of killing and the lure of gold. Knowing that he might never get back to Cheyenne he could console himself with one thought: with his faithful Colt in his hand he might just shoot his way out of trouble...

Double Cross Trail Drive Chet Cunningham

The journey begins as an ordinary trail drive from Texas to the railroad in Kansas. But it soon turns strange - and then deadly - as the camp-fire becomes a shooting target and rustlers try to steal the whole herd of steers. The crew beats them off and completes the drive, but back at the ranch in Texas the violence continues. The ranch owner seems to have become a sitting target and there are rumblings that the owner's son and his sister's husband do not get along. Whoever is out to ruin the ranch and kill the owner must be discovered, especially as a final deadly cattle stampede threatens to settle the matter once and for all...

Wild Bill Williams by Jack Martin

Official records show that some 80,000 Welshmen made their home in the place now known as the Wild West, though the true figure is likely to have been much higher. This is the story of one of those men. William Williams, otherwise known as Wild Bill Williams, is no stranger to trouble. It seems to follow him like a shadow. But even as a survivor of the Little Big Horn, as he claims, he has never before had to face the kind of trouble that he finds in the town of Stanton. When the bullets start to fly and the blood begins to run, Wild Bill is never far behind -

Judgement Trail by Rob Hill

At the outbreak of Civil War, regiments stationed along the Oregon Trail are posted back East to fight for the Union. Hastily assembled militia units seize control of the trail forts and wagon-trains are left vulnerable to exploitation and attack. Halted with a broken axle, westbound pioneers Eve Maddison and Wesley Jackson encounter a mysterious frontiersman known simply as 'Stranger'. They also run up against the vicious Viperine brothers, in charge of a local militia and plotting to extort money from the stranded pioneers. Stranger insists that everyone is judged by their actions on the trail. His philosophy of courage and self-reliance inspires Eve and Wesley to make a stand against the Viperines - and face up to some difficult truths...

Duel of Shadows by Billy Hall

Eli Lowenstein has been murdered, and Sam Murray wasn't the man who took his life. But when the accusers threaten to look in his saddle-bags he remembers the strange noises he heard that morning, and the talk of the planted evidence that had condemned Ephraim Harris to an untimely lynching. If the evidence is in his saddle-bags, he's sure it can only have been planted by Gar Newberry and he's also sure that if they find anything he'll swing from the end of a rope, just like old Ephraim. And there's no way Sam Murray is going to sit back and let them slip that noose over his head...

Amos Carr's new blog

I am a writer of Western novels, but am also working on a contemporary Romance at present, (hence blog title).

My Westerns are written under the pen name of 'Amos Carr' (an amalgam of two great-great grandparents) although my real name, is Jill McDonald-Constable. I am one of only four women in the U.K, who write Westerns for Robert Hale, under the imprint of 'Black Horse Westerns'.

I also have a website you can visit, which carries 'blurbs' and excerpts of my published works, and works in progress. Go to www.womanwholeads.webs.com

Sounds like a strange title, but there is a reason. I tell you that reason on my site.

As this is my first page, I'm not really sure just what to put on, I need to do a bit more research on other blogs, to give you something exciting to read. I'm really looking forward to chatting to some of you, and talking about my work, and that of other authors, and craft workers, as I also create hand crafted cards, charted cross stitch pictures, gift boxes, and other craft items.

Review of Domingo's Trail by Greg Mitchell

This book doesn’t really have a standout hero or heroine figure as Greg Mitchell tells his story from the viewpoint of various characters in the ransom parties, none of whom seem able to completely trust each other, these mistrusts becoming stronger when the two parties team up to fight a common enemy...

New author website for D.M. Harrison

I write about the Wild West.

The cowboys were larger than life characters living in a splendid backdrop of snowcapped mountains and endless prairies.

A spectacular stage for real folk heroes.

There was a beauty and grandeur waiting for those brave, or foolish enough to cross from east to west of America. But it was a tough land only to be conquered by those not afraid of hard work and willing to shape a new life for themselves.

Although the pioneers of the Western frontier forged new boundaries, the Indian Nations were displaced. It heralded a battle only one side would win.

Men led the way in pursuit of gold but the women followed. They took a large part in the making of the West.

The Western genre covers a short period from the gold rush of 1849 through to the time the West was tamed in the late 1800’s.

A short, but action packed time in history.

Gillian F. Taylor to publish Blakes 7 story

My hazy mix of profic and fanfic takes another twist. Like not a few writers, I started with fan fiction, writing Blakes 7 stories back in about 1980. No one else ever saw those, and for a good reason. Still, we all have to start somewhere.

After watching 'Young Guns', I wondered what the three surviving characters did next, and so wrote their story. My first grown-up full-length novel was effectively fanfic. I knew it couldn't be published as so obviously Young Guns inpsired, so I made some changes (filed off the serial numbers, in fan terms) and submitted it to Robert Hale. It was too long, but they were encouraging, so I kept the central characters and wrote a new story which became my first published book, 'Rocking W'...
